Provided by AGPUN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric, citing data from the Office of the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), delivered the stark assessment at a press briefing, stating that "last week saw one of the highest numbers of security incidents since the ceasefire was declared in October of last year."
Aid infrastructure bore the brunt of the escalation. "Humanitarian facilities came under fire in two separate incidents," Dujarric said, adding that "an airstrike also struck near a UN warehouse, and relief vehicles were damaged by stone throwing."
The UN official issued a direct appeal to all involved parties, urging them to "fulfill their obligations to facilitate, not obstruct humanitarian operations," and underscoring that "Civilians and civilian infrastructure must always be protected."
Beyond active violence, Dujarric flagged a deepening logistical crisis driven by Israeli import curbs, warning that restrictions on the entry of engine oil, spare parts, rubble removal machinery and other essential items into Gaza "are severely hindering the delivery of some of the most critical services for the population."
The consequences, he cautioned, are already being felt on the ground. "Vehicles and generators are breaking down beyond repair," Dujarric said, with cascading disruptions now rippling through food distribution networks, water trucking operations, and ambulance services — lifelines for a civilian population still reeling from months of conflict.
