Palestinian Fatally Shot by Israeli Forces in West Bank
The Palestinian Health Ministry identified the deceased as 37-year-old Abdel Halim Ruhi Hammad, whose death was formally reported by the General Authority of Civil Affairs. The ministry's statement noted that Israeli forces have retained custody of the body following the shooting.
The raid, which got underway at approximately 1:30 a.m. local time (1130 GMT), involved Israeli soldiers conducting house-to-house searches across the town. Witnesses speaking to Anadolu reported that troops assaulted residents during the operation and forcibly removed a wounded individual from inside the Ruhi family home.
The Israeli army offered a different account of events, stating that two individuals attacked a pair of Israeli soldiers during what it described as routine operational activity in Silwad. Both soldiers sustained injuries and were subsequently transported to a hospital, according to the military's statement.
The killing adds to a sharply escalating toll in the occupied West Bank since October 2023. The Palestinian Prisoners Society has documented more than 23,000 arrests during that period, as Israeli forces have intensified detention operations across the territory
The broader human cost has been severe. At least 1,154 Palestinians have been killed and thousands more wounded amid the surge in Israeli military operations and settler violence across the West Bank, according to official Palestinian figures.
Israeli forces conducting raids on Palestinian homes — involving detentions and reported mistreatment of residents — have become a recurring pattern throughout the occupied territory.
