Palestinian Killed During Israeli Raid in West Bank’s Silwad

(MENAFN) According to reports from Palestinian health authorities, a Palestinian man was killed by Israeli army fire during a military operation in the town of Silwad, east of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.

The Palestinian General Authority of Civil Affairs identified the victim as 37-year-old Abdel Halim Ruhi Hammad, stating that he was shot earlier in the day during the incident. Authorities also reported that Israeli forces are currently holding his body.

Witnesses told media that Israeli troops conducted a raid in the town during the early hours of the morning, carrying out searches in residential homes and confronting residents. They also said that an injured person was taken from a family home during the operation, which reportedly began around 1:30 am.

In a statement, the Israeli military said that during an operational activity in Silwad, two individuals attacked Israeli soldiers, resulting in injuries to two troops who were later evacuated for medical treatment.

Reports note that Israeli forces regularly conduct raids across West Bank towns, which often include home searches and detentions of residents.

The incident comes amid a broader escalation in arrest operations in the West Bank since October 2023. According to figures cited by the Palestinian Prisoners Society, more than 23,000 arrests have taken place during this period.

Palestinian data also indicates an increase in military activity and confrontations in the West Bank in recent months, which has resulted in over a thousand Palestinian deaths and thousands of injuries, according to official statistics.
