Malaysia Condemns Israeli Interception of Gaza Aid Flotilla, Calls for Accountability

(MENAFN) Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has strongly condemned Israel’s interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla, a humanitarian convoy bound for Gaza, calling for global resistance to what he described as oppression.

In a statement posted on social media, Anwar said the operation against the aid mission violated international law and reflected efforts to silence humanitarian voices supporting Palestinians. He argued that blocking aid deliveries to Gaza demonstrated disregard for basic humanitarian principles.

He called for the immediate release of detained activists, including Malaysian nationals, and urged guarantees for their safety while in custody. According to organizers, around 100 participants were detained following the interception.

Anwar further stated that the international community should not “bow to oppression and moral decay,” emphasizing that what he described as the persecution of Palestinians and humanitarian workers must end, and that accountability should follow.

The flotilla, made up of dozens of vessels carrying international activists, reportedly included participants from multiple countries and aimed to deliver aid to Gaza. Organizers said several boats were intercepted in international waters during the mission.

The incident has triggered widespread diplomatic criticism from multiple governments, particularly those with citizens involved in the flotilla, and has intensified calls for respect for international maritime and humanitarian law.
