Gaza Medicine, Food Shortages Threaten Thousands of Hypertension Patients

(MENAFN) A severe shortage of essential medicines and access to healthy nutrition is endangering the lives of approximately 225,000 people with high blood pressure in the Gaza Strip, according to warnings issued Monday by health authorities.

The alert, released on World Hypertension Day, highlighted the growing pressure on patients amid ongoing displacement, deteriorating living conditions, and worsening economic hardship linked to the war, according to reports.

The Palestinian Health Ministry said that the lack of medication represents one of the most serious threats facing hypertension patients in the territory.

“The shortage of medicine is one of the most prominent risk factors threatening 225,000 hypertension patients in the Gaza Strip,” the ministry said.

It added that prolonged disruptions to routine medical checkups are preventing early diagnosis and making it harder for patients to control their condition before it becomes critical.

According to the ministry, damage to primary healthcare facilities during the conflict has severely reduced access to diagnosis and treatment, worsening an already fragile health system.

Officials warned that hypertension is increasingly becoming a “ticking time bomb that may kill patients without warning,” as medical infrastructure continues to deteriorate.

The ministry has repeatedly stated that the healthcare system in Gaza is approaching collapse due to ongoing damage and strain on medical facilities, according to reports.
