Javier Bardem Calls for Palestinian Freedom During Oscars Appearance

(MENAFN) Spanish actor Javier Bardem used his time on stage at the Oscars ceremony in Los Angeles, California, on Sunday to express support for peace and the freedom of Palestinians while presenting an award.

While announcing the Oscar for best international film, Bardem opened his brief remarks by declaring “No to war" and "Free Palestine.”

According to reports, the actor also wore a pin bearing the Spanish phrase “No a la guerra,” which translates to “No to war,” along with another pin expressing support for Palestine.

Reports say the comments came amid the ongoing aftermath of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza that began in October 2023 and lasted for two years before continuing in different forms. The conflict has reportedly resulted in the deaths of more than 72,000 Palestinians, injured around 172,000 others and devastated roughly 90% of civilian infrastructure across the enclave.
