Egypt Prepares to Receive Wounded, Deliver Aid to Gaza
North Sinai Governor Maj. Gen. Khaled Mujawir told state television that “the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing is prepared for developments on the ground.”
He added: “The crisis management center is working on possible scenarios, including the delivery of aid, if developments allow, in preparation for the reopening of the crossing.” Mujawir emphasized that coordination with the crisis center in Cairo and all relevant state institutions is ongoing. “We are 100% ready for the entry of aid and for receiving the wounded from the Gaza Strip.”
The announcement follows a ceasefire plan first approved on October 9, 2025, by Israel and Hamas during negotiations in Egypt, which went into effect the next day. The body of the last Israeli captive in Gaza, Ran Gvili, was returned to Israel on January 26, with Palestinian groups largely meeting the first phase conditions of the agreement.
Despite the ceasefire, Israeli military operations in Gaza have continued under various pretexts.
Meanwhile, US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff confirmed on January 14 that the second phase of a 20-point Gaza plan had begun, establishing a Gaza National Administration Committee led by Palestinian technocrat Ali Shaas to manage the enclave.
