White House warns Netanyahu over Gaza ceasefire breach

(MENAFN) The White House reportedly delivered a “stern” private warning to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after an Israeli strike in Gaza, emphasizing that the attack violated the ceasefire brokered by US President Donald Trump.

Sources cited by Axios said the warning followed Israel’s killing of Raed Saad, deputy commander of Hamas’ military wing, in a Gaza City airstrike over the weekend that killed four people in total. A senior US official conveyed the message to Netanyahu as, “If you want to ruin your reputation and show that you don’t abide by agreements be our guest, but we won’t allow you to ruin President Trump’s reputation after he brokered the deal in Gaza.”

US officials noted that Israel did not consult or notify Washington before carrying out the attack.

Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya confirmed Saad’s death in a televised statement, noting that he had been the target of multiple prior Israeli assassination attempts.

The strike came despite a ceasefire that took effect on October 10. Since the agreement, the Israeli military has repeatedly breached the truce, reportedly killing at least 391 Palestinians and wounding 1,063 others. Overall, Israeli attacks in Gaza since October 2023 have resulted in the deaths of over 70,600 people, mostly women and children, and injured more than 171,100, with hostilities continuing despite the truce.
