Trump Reports Pouring of Humanitarian Aid to Gaza
(MENAFN) U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday that essential humanitarian relief has started reaching the war-torn Gaza Strip following a major prisoner exchange between Israel and Hamas.
"Humanitarian aid is now pouring in, including hundreds of truckloads of food, medical equipment and other supplies, much of it paid for by people in this room. Civilians are returning to their homes. The hostages are reuniting," Trump stated during a summit with world leaders in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.
He expressed optimism about the situation, emphasizing that a new chapter is beginning for Gaza.
"A new and beautiful day is rising, and now the rebuilding begins. Rebuilding is maybe going to be the easiest part. I think we've done a lot of the hardest part, because the rest comes together. We all know how to rebuild, and we know how to build better than anybody in the world," he added, underlining the confidence he has in the international community’s ability to restore the region.
Trump also acknowledged the crucial role played by countries in the region, expressing his "tremendous gratitude to the Arab and Muslim nations who helped make this incredible breakthrough possible."
The American president further highlighted the necessity of a structured and secure recovery plan for Gaza, stressing that reconstruction must go hand in hand with demilitarization and law enforcement reform.
“We're also agreed that Gaza's reconstruction requires that it be demilitarized and that a new honest civilian police force [be created] to create a safe condition for the people in Gaza,” Trump noted.
Earlier that same day, a significant agreement between Hamas and Israel led to a large-scale exchange of detainees.
Hundreds of Palestinian inmates were freed from Israel's Ofer military detention center and other prisons located in the Negev Desert.
Meanwhile, all 20 surviving Israeli captives were released from Hamas custody, marking a critical step toward easing tensions in the region.
